Lectures
Currently Offered Via Zoom
• Secrets of the International Quilt Market - What Happens in Houston, Doesn't Necessarily Stay There. A multi-media behind the scenes look at the quilting industry's biggest trade show. Since this is a credentialed trade show, most quilters will never have the opportunity to experience this huge event. I take you there vicariously and let you in on some of the "trade secrets".
• Cotton to Consumer - The Journey of a Cotton Boll from the Field to Your Local Quilt Shop. Multi-media presentation of the process of cotton becoming fabric. What is the process of growing cotton, creating fabric, designing fabric, having it printed and delivered to your local quilt shop? Probably much more that you ever considered. You will learn how it's grown and manufactured. You will get insights on how different designers create special lines of fabric, and how manufacturers get their goods into your local quilt shops.
• If MacGyver was a Quilter - I take you room by room through your home and show you quilting hacks from 75+ common household items.
• Looking Great, Dresden Plate - A look at the history of the nearly 100 year old Dresden Plate quilt block. What inspired it? How is it being kept current? Something old is still new. We'll see traditional designs and more modern variations.
Workshops
Currently Offered Via Zoom
• Dresden Neighborhood - a fun class based on Persimon Dreams' Dresden Neighborhood pattern. Make it your own - scrap friendly. You'll finish the top in class.
• Birthstone Series by MJ Kinman, Textile artist - Want to create larger than life sized gemstones? I am a Certified Gem Affiliate, trained by MJ Kinman, Textile Artist. MJ has been creating giant diamonds and other gemstones for over 20 years. She recently designed a birthstone series with her unique technique that anyone can do! Yes, anyone! In the workshop, each participant works on the 18x18” gemstone of their choice. There are birthstones for each month. If you want more – there is the Elizabeth which is a 48x48” diamond. If you want to do a less intimidating gem, I have several to offer that will give you a less intimidating introduction to MJ's technique - but they are still beautiful!
